A note about shoplifting.

There's almost nothing more violating than having your goods stolen.

While we do not see it as being a serious issue here, shoplifting is an unfortunate reality of retail in this day and age. Belleville Market does its best to keep this problem at a minimum. With excellent customer service, regular market walk-throughs, and security cameras throughout, you can trust that we are doing our best to keep your merchandise as safe as possible. Additionally, apparel merchants may make use of provided security tags for some of their higher dollar items upon request.

If and when you notice a product missing from your booth or showcase, please let us know by submitting a merchant services ticket and include the item's SKU and product description. Chances are that item has probably simply made its way to another merchant's booth by mistake, and it has just not been discovered there yet. Customers quite frequently do not put items back where they belong. But in the event that something is truly missing, this helps us to identify potential problem areas that may need additional monitoring.

Suggestions to help guard against shoplifting:

  • Keep accurate inventories. It's advised that all merchants use their ConsignCloud accounts to keep accurate inventory counts. Up-to-date inventory numbers ensures that we are all tracking the comings and goings of inventory which allows us to accurately pinpoint when there are issues.
  • Keep your selling area clean and organized. While our Guest Services Team routinely makes rounds to ensure shelves are straitened and everything is looking its best, merchants should make it a point to keep their spaces well-merchandised and orderly. This helps our team more easily recognize when something may be missing or out of place.

Even with all of these preventative measures, we do advise our merchants to plan for some shrink in their budgets, adjusting profit margins and projections if needed.
